How COVID-19 has altered a popular Fraser Valley music festival. Michelle Demers-Shaevitz, the artistic director of the Mission Folk Music Festival spoke with CIVL and said that COVID-19 has had a dramatic impact on the Folk Festival. Mrs. Demers-Shaevitz says that this was the 34th annual festival in the Fraser Valley. This time it was not held at Fraser River Heritage Park in mission due to COVID-19 and the restrictions put in place by the government. This year, they held the festival virtually. Every year, the folk festival has 3,000 people attending in a 3-day period. Due to it being virtual this year, they only had 1,000 people attend. Mrs. Demers-Shaevitz says that one positive thing that happened due to them going virtual was that they contacted artists from across the country rather than just artists in the Fraser Valley.
