Within the challenges of COVID-19, the Mission Folk Music Festival has made the best of it. Michelle Demers-Shaevitz, the artistic director of the Mission Folk Music Festival spoke with CIVL on how COVID- 19 has helped them bring international artists. Mrs. Demers-Shaevitz says one positive thing that came out of COVID-19 is that they have been able to enhance relationships with international bookers. Now that artists from around the world are producing their own online content, the Mission Folk Music Festival can obtain it and present it to their audience. Mrs. Demers-Shaevitz says that this is a cost-effective method to get content. Before the pandemic, when they brought international stars to participate in the Folk Festival, they had to pay a large amount to host because of the many fees the festival had to pay.
