Online donations played a key role in fundraising for the Cobourg Terry Fox Run this year.

The 43rd local edition of the event was held Sunday and it's expected the funds raised to be around $40,000 total.

Organizer Fred Stegmayer said more than $18,000 was raised online this year, an option that hasn’t always been available.

 This year there were about 110 participants in person and an additional 250 who made online donations, even if they couldn't participate in the event.
