Wildfire near Nelson appears to be suspicious

A press release on Monday, Sept. 18 said Nelson Fire and Rescue and BC Wildfire Service responded to a fire south of Nelson near Selous Creek on Sunday. Several calls came in around 4:30 p.m. reporting visible smoke on the mountain above Selous Creek.

Upon arrival, crews found multiple fires burning covering roughly half a hectare. They managed to contain and extinguish the flames.

Nelson Fire and Rescue say the fire appeared to be suspicious in nature. CJLY reached out the Nelson Fire and Rescue for more information but did not receive a response prior to publishing.
