With Pride Month fully underway in Prince Edward County, members of the Youth Engagement Team decided to put on a youth focused Pride event at Benson Park earlier this month.

Responding to a school board level survey which identified 60 per cent of its students as identifying as part of the 2SLGBTQ+ community, the Youth Engagement Team (which consists of youth volunteers from Prince Edward Learning Centre, ROC, and others) gathered to create an event to provide youth with free resources, live entertainment, a talent stage, and to support businesses that promote inclusion and safe spaces.

Over 200 community members and youth attended the event on June 15, and it received high praise from attendees, including making some dreams come true with the talent showcase. Furthermore, it fostered the feeling of a more inclusive community.

The Youth Engagement Team intends to hold more events like this in the future.
