The COVID-19 mass vaccination clinic opens today in Fergus at the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex.

In a media release yesterday, Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health says the Sportsplex is an ideal location for a mass immunization clinic as it combines multiple large indoor spaces with accessibility and excellent parking.

Public Health says the clinic will begin with a capacity of 500 doses per day with the ability to scale up to 5,000 doses per day once vaccine supply increases.

To begin, the Sportsplex location will focus on vaccinations for high-risk groups as directed by The Province’s Ethical Framework for Vaccine Distribution. As vaccine supply expands, the Sportsplex location will transition to vaccinations for the broader public.

The clinic is not yet open to the general public, only healthcare workers and long-term care and retirement home essential caregivers with approved appointments can attend the clinic at this time.
