For the last two months the Six Nations Animal Wellness Kennel has been robbed and vandalized, with the most recent and serious incidents taking place on weekend of Saturday November 11 and Sunday November 12.

The damage has made the kennel inoperable and forced them to temporarily close for repairs as well as halt some of its services. Six Nations Health and Wellness Program Supervisor Elissa Smith says the vandalism has steadily increased to the point that dogs were stolen on November 12.

Although they have no idea why this is happening, Smith says they don't believe it is targeting the kennel specifically or the services they provide. Still, some services have had to be temporarily suspended such as animal surrenders, except for puppies and the pick up of stray dogs and cats. Other services remain in place such as receiving calls, following up on dog bites, investigating animal abuse and documenting reports of stray cats and dogs.

Staff are working to repair the damage even though morale has suffered due to the attacks and the community will be updated once repairs are completed.
