As Cortes Island wrestles with demand for affordable housing, the creation of a tiny home park is being considered as one short term solution.
Sandra Wood, executive director of the Cortes Community Housing Society, says creation of a tiny home park was something the society looked in to in detail, on its centrally located Mansons Landing Rainbow Ridge property.
She says bringing such an idea to fruition is complicated, so the society opted to create 24 affordable town homes as its main initiative. Wood acknowledges that it will be 2024 until any of the units are built and available.
Wood sees changes to Cortes Island's Official Community Plan to allow for increased density as a first step for creating a tiny home park. She believes such an initiative is one component for addressing the local housing need.
