The Town of Brome Lake is planning to municipalize sections of land on Johnston road where the road interferes with private properties.

“It came to our attention that on Johnston road, there's probably 11 areas on Johnston road, including one on the corner of Johnston and stagecoach, that the property of the owners infringes onto the road or vise versa the road infringes on their property,” stated Richard Burcombe, mayor of Brome Lake.

“Naturally, we want to regulate this,” he added,

Municipalizing means to transfer, in this case purchase or reclaim, private assets to public ownership.

This situation was recently brought to the attention of the town by residents and land surveyors.

Johnston road connects Highway 215 in Brome, all the way to Mansville, crossing the popular route of Stagecoach.

The town will municipalize these sections over the coming months.
