The Harbour Authority of Cortes Island has begun an information campaign about its purpose and responsibilities, as well as responsible boating practices.

The Authority manages five government docks on Cortes Island located at Mansons Landing, Squirrel Cove, Whaletown, Cortes Bay, and The Gorge.

Harbour Authority general manager Jenny Hartwick, says better communication with the boating public is part of the goal, to inform people about the make up of the organization, its volunteer board and what it's responsible for, as well as to educate users about responsible boating. She says information bulletins will be posted twice a week on various digital platforms.

Hartwick adds, that 2022 was the busiest on record for moorage requests, and a reservation system introduced last April helped things run smoothly, and provided data for effectively managing the docks.
