As the wealth gap grows in the Fraser Valley, the resources available to the less fortunate are being neglected, argues a local homelessness advocate.

CIVL spoke with Pastor Ward Draper, executive Director of 5 and 2 ministries, a homeless advocacy group located in Abbotsford. In the second part of a two-part interview, Draper discusses the resources needed by the homeless in the Fraser Valley. Draper says he is noticing that services available for the homeless are not a priority for governments in the region, as the cities in the Fraser Valley obtain more wealth.

The large inequality between what is required and what is available needs to be closed immediately, Draper says — governments need to work rapidly on funding a wide range of services from mental health to detox recovery spaces.
