Last weekend's storm had a frightening and destructive impact in Sophiasburgh, Prince Edward County.

Resident Mike Farrell told CJPE that the June 24 storm’s high winds tore out trees and broke away tree-sized branches, smashing them into his family’s home and totaling one of his vehicles. Farrell added that this event happened mere seconds after he and his family dashed from their car to go inside and shelter in the home’s main floor stairwell.

Farrell added that the impact of climate change clear with all the unpredictable severe weather lately, in Prince Edward County and beyond.

An EF-1 tornado also touched down on that same day in the Marmora - Madoc - Actinolite area, according to Environment Canada.
