Six Nations Elected Council (SNEC) welcomed the newest team member to the organization Tuesday night during it's General Council meeting.
Holly Smith will take on the new role of Director of Service Excellence. The role was created to strengthen the way the organization plans and organizes health services to the community and to help provide better services to the community of Six Nations.
Smith is a local from Six Nations has over 11 years of clinical and leadership experience in the mental health and addiction fields, a master of science in occupational therapy and a master of health management degree from McMaster. Smith previously worked with the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health in Toronto across various departments.
"I think this is a really key area (mental health) for us to support, not only our community members but our staff as well in some of the changes that we're working through," said Darrin Jamiesion, CEO for SNEC on the new hire.
Jamieson says SNEC will be focusing on ways to build the community of Six Nations instead of delivering services to the community on other's behalf.
"We're moving away from just delivering services on behalf of other governments. We are here to build the nation of Six Nations and part of that is understanding the data, understanding the outcome measures that are really impacting our community, all different groups youth, elders and everyone in the community. And this element of the team is really an important piece of the puzzle and really the key piece of the puzzle."
Smith spoke on her excitement taking over the new role.
"I'm really excited for this opportunity to be in this brand new role and to work alongside community members and people that are familiar faces and people who have a big part in my growth and development as a young person as well," Smith said. "It's always been a passion and dream of mine to come back to the community and to support and work for the community. I'm really grateful for the opportunity and I'm looking forward to doing a lot of great work with the community."
