The Ryerson School of Journalism announced that there are proposed plans for classes to return to full capacity in the winter semester, according to a recent statement.

"We have heard from the university that the winter 2022 plan is for a full return to classes as directed by the province," wrote Gavin Adamson, co-director of the undergraduate program. "As a j-school, we plan to accommodate students, staff and faculty as much as possible. We're aiming to include online and hybrid options for those who require them."

Masks and proof of full vaccinations or a legitimate health exemption will still be required for all returning individuals, the statement reads.

To gauge the opinions and feedback from the student body, Adamson adds that there will be an email survey sent out next week about the plans the winter semester. Further, an FAQ (frequently asked questions) page will be set by the journalism school in the coming days.

Ryerson University has yet to announce an official return to full capacity for all faculities. In a statement for CJRU, Karen Benner, associate director of university communications, writes:

“While some faculties and programs at the university are starting to identify their processes for winter classes, the university is still working through the details and no official decision has been made about the winter term.”

On Oct. 12, the university announced full vaccination requirements or a legitimate health exemption to access the campus by Oct.18.

Individuals with vaccine exemptions will to be required to take a rapid COVID-19 test as part of the rapid antigen program each time they enter campus buildings.

The university announced on its website that more than 27,000 individuals have submitted their vaccination statuses to the RyersonSafe app, which is the school's primary way to see proof of vaccination.

Prior to the start of the semester, Ryerson announced that the fall semester would be "a period of transition"  as more on-campus classes and activities gradually increase and be prepared for a potential full return in January, 2022.

All classes and activities, including student clubs, were remote during the 2020-21 school year.

More details are expected to be released next week by the university and other facilities.
