Concerns raised about daycare and transit by an Embrun resident recently have now been addressed by the mayor.

Russell Mayor Pierre Leroux responded to Neeraj Joshi's recent interview with CJRO in which Joshi suggested the Township needed more transit and daycare. The original interview with Joshi can be found here.

Leroux recognized the issues for residents with a lack of transit and explained how previous transit systems had low ridership and high costs, including PR Transpo, a trial ride-on-demand service which cost over $2 million (largely funded by the province) and brought in less than $100,000 in revenue.

He also acknowledged the problems with lack of daycare in the area, saying they were largely caused by lack of staff. He also questioned whether municipalities should be involved in providing daycare. He said he would like to solve all the problems of residents of Russell Township but that it was impossible.
