In a recently released independent report called "In Plain Sight," Hon. Dr. M.E. Turpel-Lafond (Aki-Kwe) an independent reviewer addresses the systemic racism in the BC healthcare system towards Indigenous peoples.
In the wake of the report, Indigenous leaders have spoken out.
"It is a glaring fact that Indigenous peoples encounter racism on a regular basis in the health care system and we need an effective mechanism or complaint process to bring the issue to light and have it addressed," stated Grand Chief Stewart Phillip, president of Union of BC Indian Chiefs.
Dr. Margo Greenwood, the academic leader for the National Collaborating Centre for Indigenous Health, is on the news to give more insight on the report and break the core systems down for CICK listeners.
