Prince George's smallest brewery has taken home a BC Beer Award for its Cold IPA.
Brandon Baerwald of Deadfall Brewing spoke to CFUR News about this promising win, "I'm just this green guy with this green brewery cutting my teeth in Prince George and standing among giants of the industry. It was awesome."
The BC Beer Awards serve to acknowledge and celebrate the best beer brewed in British Columbia. In September, 925 entries were tasted amidst 29 different beer styles. That ranges from technically layered stouts to more commonly known lagers.
Deadfall manages to brew a selection of these using a 700 liter system, "Anyone in the industry listening right now is going, 'Oh damn, that's real small.'" Of them all, it's the Cold IPA that took home the gold.
Acknowledging his earlier experience Brandon recalls, "I cut my teeth in the brewing industry at Nokomis Craft Ales in Saskatchewan. When I first started there it was me and the owner Jeff [Allport]. That size is very similar to the one I'm running now."
When asked about future plans, Baerwald says, "I'd like to keep it small, that would be ideal." As far as plans for the immediate future, an oatmeal stout is rolling out shortly, and stayed tuned to the Deadfall Brewing's Instagram for more announcements and some intimate live music events.
