Prince Edward County needs better climate change planning according to concerned citizens and UofGuelph study

On Wednesday (Feb. 1), Prince Edward County Council at the first session of its 2023 Capital Budget deliberations heard a warning that the municipality is not planning and adequately allocating resources effectively when it comes to climate change preparation.

Jane Lesslie, who is a member of a group of citizens concerned with the intersectionality of local economic and environmental futures, presented to Council that this year’s budget does not include any provision for climate change mitigation and adaptation, despite it being a municipal strategic priority.

Furthermore, the presentation highlighted the findings of a University of Guelph study, which stated that Prince Edward County is in the bottom third of small rural communities in Ontario when it comes to climate change planning.
