Pontiac Conservative candidate Michel Gauthier held a press conference yesterday (Sept. 7) to go over his priorities for the rural portions of the riding.

One way that he sees economic vitality returning to the rural MRCs in the riding, namely Vallee de la Gatineau and Pontiac, is by ensuring that public servants and other white collar workers can work from home.

One key aspect to this strategy is by improving high-speed internet connectivity throughout the region.

Gauthier also had a similar stance to his opponents on the proposed waste disposal site at Chalk River. The near surface disposal facility project would house up to a million cubic metres of low-level radioactive waste in a mound about 1 km from the Ottawa River. He said that he wasn’t convinced the facility needed to be located so close to the Ottawa river.
