Police officer physically-assaulted in Mansfield

A man, possibly in psychological distress, assaulted a police officer on July 1 in the municipality of Mansfield-et-Pontefract.

According to information provided by Sgt. Marc Tessier, an information officer for the Sûreté du Québec's (SQ), the police received a distress call around 10:30 a.m. concerning a person who allegedly threw a rock at an officers vehicle, damaging one of the mirrors.The man then proceeded to use the broken mirror to strike a police officer in the jaw.

The SQ located the individual on chemin des Chutes, Mansfield where the 44-year-old man was overpowered by the police and taken into custody where he was later taken to the hospital for psychological treatment. The assaulted police officer was brought to the CLSC to treat his injuries and was discharged later that day.

The suspect is scheduled to appear in the Gatineau courthouse later this summer for where he will be facing charges of assault and assault against an officer of the peace.
