On Monday, the North Peace Navigators announced they will be hosting the 2024 Hockey Alberta Junior B Provincial Championship in Peace River in April 2024.

Jody Menssa, general manager and head coach of the North Peace Navigators, says he's "excited" for the tournament that will welcome teams from five different junior B leagues from across Alberta. He's also relieved that all the hard work him and his committee put into hosting the tournament paid off in the best way possible.

The Navigators have been in Peace River for a long time, and Jayden Rothwell, assistant captain for the  team, says this tournament has the ability to" bring the town together" and celebrate the sport. Rothwell adds that not many people have been coming out to see the Navigators play in recent years. He hopes that with this tournament, it will draw people to the stands of the Baytex Energy Centre once again.

Cory Isaac, another assistant captain for the Navigators is also looking forward to the event.

"Peace River is a big hockey town, a lot of teams play out of here...it'll be a good time," he said.

The Hockey Alberta Junior B Provincial Championship will be hosted at the Baytex Energy Centre April 3-7, 2024. Further information on the tournament can be found on the North Peace Navigators' Facebook page.
