The Nelson Museum, Archives & Gallery announced that Jennifer Dunkerson was appointed as the new executive director on Nov. 27.

Dunkerson brings with her a wealth of experience in the arts and culture sector in Canada, having previously served as the executive director of the Revelstoke Railway Museum, as a management role with Columbia Basin Trust, and as a heritage planner with Heritage BC. Additionally, she has served on the board of directors at the Nelson Museum.

Dunkerson takes over from Astrid Heyerdahl, who served as the Museum's executive director since 2016.

The museum has plans to redevelop the museum exhibit on the 2nd floor, expand the Nelson Sports Collection located at the Civic Arena and the Nelson District Community Complex (NDCC), enhance the regional Archives and Collection and strengthen public and education programs. These initiatives will be implemented over the next few years to ensure the museum's continued growth and engagement with the community.

Dunkerson joined CJLY to discuss her new position with the Nelson Museum and their future plans. Listen to the story below:
