Nelson Leafs fan favourite Seamus Boyd looks to return for third season

There are several changes with the Nelson Leafs this season, but one thing that will remain the same is that Seamus Boyd will be at training camp.

Boyd is one of few current players in the organization who was born and raised in Nelson; he is also the team’s longest tenured player. At 19-years-old, he is entering his third season with the Leafs. Last year, he scored 31 points in 40 games and recorded 142 penalty minutes.

Speaking of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) moving up to Junior A, Boyd says, “it’ll be a more competitive league for sure but mentally it’s not a big change. I’m going to come to the rink, do the exact same stuff and work as hard as I can.”

The Leafs will have 45 players attempting to make the 25 man roster this year. Training camp begins on Sept. 1.
