Last week, BC Hockey approved the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League’s reclassification to Junior A from Junior B. This move will see an increase in talent across the league as well as “an exciting structure for improved development for players within BC Hockey,” according to the organization.

This move comes as a response to the British Columbia Hockey League leaving hockey Canada.

Nelson Leafs’ Head Coach Briar McNany joined CJLY to discuss how this move will impact the local league and the Leafs’ organization.

McNany was hired as an interim coach back in January after a brawl resulted in the previous coach stepping down. He was then appointed the full-time position in February.
