On Oct. 28, the Muslim Youth of Victoria released a statement in response to statements made by French President Emmanuel Macron in regards to the beheading of French history teacher Samuel Paty.

Macrons comments on Oct 21, made at a national tribute for the history teacher stating, "We (France) will not give up cartoons," as well as calling the killing an “Islamist terror attack.”

The attack on Paty occurred by an 18-year-old Chechen teenager after the teacher showed caricatures of the Prophet Mohammad in class.

In the statement, Abdullah Kathrada, the president of the Dar Al-Ihsan Islamic Center and the Muslim Youth of Victoria condemned Macron’s comments on the situation. Kathrada also stated that both groups “condemn and denounce the vile and filthy cartoon and insults made against our beloved Prophet Muhammad, those who created them and the French government’s support of these cartoons and cartoonists.”

The statement made by Kathrada also calls for the boycott of French merchandise and companies as well as calls for Muslims to “demonstrate that we have significant economic power of our own and to utilize it effectively against those who actively choose to oppress out Ummah,” said Kathrada.
