Mayoral race in Prince Rupert heating up in final days of the campaign

With out going Prince Rupert Mayor, Lee Brain, bowing out of this years municipal election, some new and old faces are returning for another kick at the can.

Jason Hoang, Stephen Fitzpatrick, Chystopher Thompson and former mayor Herb Pond are all in the running.

However, with a 100 million plus infrastructure deficit needing to be filled in the coming years, all want to lead the community to prosperity.

Recently Fitzpatrick called out Pond about his close times with industry and big business in Prince Rupert, saying only his leadership will ensure a bright future for Prince Rupert.

But Herb Pond is the frontrunner of the race and brings years of experience, including two terms as mayor in Prince Rupert in the early and mid-2000s.

Pond said council will never please everyone in the community but that it’s important to move forward of the Prince Rupert 2030 plan with strong, proven leadership.
