The Cortes Island Museum and Archives Society is continuing its programming for the fall with an event featuring bees.

This Sunday, the museum is hosting “Save the Bees: Storytelling with Jane Newman.” The event is a compliment to the longer term exhibit, "Listen to the Bees." Newman is the former museum director and co-curated the exhibit which opened in May 2021.

The bee enthusiast notes that the exhibit is likely to close before summer 2023. Due to the mild weather, this weekend’s event will mostly take place outside the museum and in the Heritage Garden, where the bees are still active.

The exhibit itself is quite diverse, Newman says.

“It talks about honey bees, native bees, other pollinators, lore that's associated with bees, and also about Paul Staments' work with the mushrooms and bees.“

The Oct. 16 event is admission by donation and welcome to all ages.
