Since her arrival six years ago, poet Zaynab Mohammed has become a cultural figure on the streets of Nelson, B.C. Many know her for creating on-the-spot poems on Baker Street, bringing inspiration to life from behind her typewriter.
Now, Mohammed is one of four Kootenay-based artists invited to the Civic Theatre's inaugural artist-in-residence program. This year, she embarks on a journey to develop a theory about listening.
She talks about the desire to be heard, working solo and her gratitude for the residency.
Read and listen to more about the other artists in the Civic Theatre's inaugural program, author Pat Henman and filmmaker Sarah Kapoor.
