Upon reflection, Kitimat Mayor Phil Germuth is thankful to his community for "working together" during the COVID-19 pandemic.

CICK News reported earlier in the year on the vaccination rates in communities across the north and Kitimat was one of the highest-ranked vaccinated communities in all of British Columbia, not just the north.

Kitimat is a small community near the coast of northern British Columbia with over 1000 people employed by the aluminium smelter and the Kemano Powerhouse, a hydropower facility supplied by the Nechako reservoir. The Haisla Nation, an Indigenous community with land title over the village of Kitimaat is a successful and thriving community for which Kitimat (the town) often partner with on economic development projects.

On the list of positive outcomes in 2021, Mayor Germuth listed the new recycling program, community recreation updates, an active transportation plan, and the community river cleanup.

Mayor Germuth thanked many people in his 2021 reflection statement including Kitimat Fire Chief Trent Bossence for his organized and easily-accessible vaccination rollout, for which he states was a "major contributor" to Kitimat's vaccination rates.
