Olympian Hugo Barette was named the top male athlete in track cycling at the Mérite cycliste québécois 2020 last Thursday.
The Fédération québécoise des sports cyclistes wanted to highlight his two Top 10 World Cup finishes in the past year, despite a major injury sustained in September 2019.
The athlete is expected to take part in the 2021 Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo in the discipline of keirin.
During this event of Japanese origin, the riders gradually reach speeds of 50 km/h following a motorcycle, before setting off for a final sprint on the last 625 meters.
Hugo Barette is currently ranked 14th in the world in this discipline.
