Two decades ago it was a dingy back alley beside the Revelstoke Museum and Archives. Now, the museum's Heritage Garden takes up that narrow space, creating a cool, green oasis downtown.
People come and sit on the benches shaded under the grape arbour to eat lunch, and families come and spend time in the garden as a way to escape the heat.
Volunteer gardeners show up Wednesday morning to dig in the dirt, and pass on their expertise to each other.
The museum sells plant clippings and grape jelly, made with grapes from the vine, to raise money to continually improve the garden.
Aside from this, every brick and every plant in the garden has a story behind it, and represents the heritage of the city.
