Estrie Joue is back with their 2023 edition of the tabletop gaming event at the Séminaire de Sherbrooke.

This community-focused gaming event in Sherbrooke combines tabletop gaming with a charitable cause. In an interview with CJMQ, Marianne St-Jean, co-founder of Estrie Joue, shared insights into what makes this year's event a unique experience.

St-Jean explains that Estrie Joue is designed for both seasoned players and newcomers looking to experience the world of tabletop gaming. It's a welcoming space with experienced gamers on hand to explain the games, making it ideal for those who want to learn more about this hobby or are a bit too shy to jump in. For the experienced gamers, it's an opportunity to play games that typically require more players.

St Jean explains that one of the event's highlights is a quiz hosted by a podcaster, providing a way to gauge the gaming community's enthusiasm for such events.

"We're kind of like testing the waters to see if people are still willing to come to this kind of event and what they would like in the future," St-Jean said.

For those wondering "What exactly is a Weekend Ludique?" St-Jean clarifies that it is a dedicated weekend of gaming and fun: it's an extended period of social activities where people can immerse themselves in games, make friends, enjoy food and beverages, and discover new games.

St-Jean said that all funds raised are redistributed to the event's partners and a chosen charity. This year, they're supporting the 1st Robotics team and donating to a charity depending on the event's financial success.

With a wide variety of board games available, from family-friendly classics to party games and strategy RPGs, the event caters to a diverse gaming audience. St-Jean mentions that there's really no age limit, although children under 13-14 must be accompanied by an adult.

Estrie Joue 2023 will take place from Nov. 3-5 in Sherbrooke. Tickets can be purchased at the door or on their website, with options for single days or the entire weekend.
