Breanna Macleod served as Climate Change Coordinator for the town of Sackville this past summer, and is now working for EOS Eco-Energy, helping put together a sump pump bulk purchase order for the Tantramar region.
Erica Butler called up Macleod to find out more about the program:
The bulk purchase program is happening in partnership with Cory Allen’s Plumbing & Heating, and is open to anyone in the Tantramar area.
Macleod says EOS is hoping to get at least six participants to go forward with the purchase, which comes with a 15% discount on a sump pump or battery back-up sump pump. The latter is very useful to have, says Macleod, “because a lot of insurance companies are now requiring that homes have a back-up sump pump, just in case the power goes out.”
Macleod says EOS is coordinating the bulk purchase program as part of its work on climate change, with funding from the New Brunswick Environmental Trust Fund.
“EOS is interested in helping find climate solutions for basically any aspect of our lives,” says Macleod. And the organization is also “very interested in helping to protect from natural weather events.”
“Sackville, and a lot of regions in the Tantramar area are located on flood zones,” says Macleod. “So there’s an increased risk of flooding and bank breach, should that ever occur.”
Macleod says people may not be able to rely on their experience with flooding in the past 20 years when they are planning ahead for the next 20.
“It’s hard to know what is going to happen with weather,” says Macleod. “It’s incredibly hard to predict. But it’s always a better idea to be cautious, and to do everything we can to help prevent flooding, and as well as being ready for it should it appear.”
The deadline to get in on the bulk purchase is February 24, and Macleod is asking those interested to contact EOS Eco-Energy at 506-536-4487 or info.eos@nb.aibn.com.
