The Prince George Cougars opened their 2021 WHL season with a 5–4 loss to the Kamloops Blazers on Saturday. Although it was a losing effort, Prince George showed promise and strong offensive talent.

In a back and forth battle, where Prince George led 3-1 after the first period and 4-3 going into the third, the Blazers were able to pick up a shorthanded goal and come back to win the game 5-4.

The Cougars’ rookies impressed with Kyren Gronick, Carter MacAdams and Koehn Ziemmer all scoring their first goals in the Western Hockey League.

The Kamloops Blazers were led to victory by Logan Stankoven. The seventeen year old prospect scored two goals including the game winner, with just under ten minutes left in the third period.

The Cougars will be looking to get their first win of the season against the Victoria Royals on March 29 in Kelowna.
