According to the BC Centre for Disease Control, as of Sept. 3 there have been 64 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the North Island region this year. Only four were still active. None of these were critical. They did not indicate if there are still any active COVID-19 cases in our area, which includes Campbell River, the Discovery Islands and Mainland Inlets, but there have been at least 12 this year.

Managing our reality

In a recent interviewMary Ruth Snyder, Executive Director of the Campbell River Chamber of Commerce, said, “I think we have all come to understand that the global pandemic is not going away anytime soon. British Columbians, especially the Islanders, have really done a superb job managing our reality. All of the local businesses that I am aware of were able to pivot early to e-commerce, home delivery, and take-out options. All of the greater community: started ordering take-out at least once a week to support the restaurants; really made an effort to check in with the stores and see who is open; shopped locally as opposed to other options.”

“I think we are now well positioned to manage whatever comes next,” she added.
