Local artist Jane Newman is hosting a card making workshop this Sunday in collaboration with the Cortes Island Museum and Archives Society.

A multi-media card using fabric, metal, paint and string is featured.

In the current digital age, Newman believes there's something special about making and receiving an item that's handmade during the holidays.

Newman is a multimedia artist and has painted for decades; she says she got into card making about 10 years ago.

The workshop is free and runs from 1-4 p.m. on Dec. 11. Newman is providing all materials, but participants are welcome to bring some of their own as well. She says donations are appreciated, adding that there's room for eight to ten participants. Registration is required as space is limited.
