Castlegar youth meets with B.C premier over mental health, addictions and gig economy

Aur Hager, a 19-year-old Castlegar resident, is hoping to make a difference in her community and beyond by pursuing a seat on the StrongerBC Young Leaders Council.

At the end of November, Hager and other council members met with new premier David Eby to share their thoughts.

"It's important to speak up for youth who maybe don't have access to government officials," Hager told KCR News. "We talked about a quite variety of things, but anything that impacts youth."

The StrongerBC Youth Council is a new initiative of the provincial government that was launched in 2020. The council is made up of 15 to 20 youth aged 14 to 24 and is tasked with providing advice to the government on issues that affect youth in BC, and is led by Nelson-Creston MLA Brittny Anderson, who is also the premiers' special advisor on youth.

Aur Hager told KCR News how young people can make a change:
