The Town of Brome Lake is in the planning stages for a new walking path into downtown.

The new path is going to enter town from the Sugar Hill direction. The path is part of the new development, Jean Lapierre, behind the dog park.

The development may appear within a close distance to the town centre but it is actually situated on a cliff. This means residents must walk a long route on steep and busy roads to access downtown. Having a path there would also allow residents of Jean Lapierre access to the dog park. It is slated as beneficial not only for the people living in the Jean Lapierre development, but also all the other residents in the surrounding communities.

Brome Lake is home to a large community of walkers and bikers. Having a new route for these activities is beneficial to both the citizens and the drivers, the Town suggested. Driving in the summer becomes very difficult due to the mass amounts of bikers on the roads. The town is working towards offering several alternate routes to take to avoid incidents on the road.

The new pathway will be paved in ash vault for maintenance reasons. Due to the terrain, gravel is not a viable option as it would be continuously washed away. This is a current issue the town deals with on the 12 km lake path.

Some citizens are extremely happy to hear this announcement as it offers more options for safe activities in and around town. The pathway will also allow easier access for people to visit the businesses in downtown. Stimulating economic growth of the local businesses is a huge endeavour the town is promoting this year.

“I think that it’s essential today to provide infrastructure that allows population to move around other [than] by their vehicles,” stated Gilbert Arel, director general for the Town of Brome Lake.

The necessary parcel of land has been purchased by the town for $30,000 plus tax. Construction will be completed in 2022.
