It started back in June of 2021 with the Round Lake Hall Community member Judy Van Der Meulen noticing that the hall's two outdoor sheds were broken into. There wasn't much of great value that was taken, but it served as an inconvenience to the members who would have to fix the damage to the door locks and replace the tools that were taken.
A month later, when she entered the hall to access items in storage, she found that the storage room was broken into and about $400 of sound equipment was missing, including microphones and mic stands and that the lock had been jimmied.
This doesn't sound like a big loss to a community, but Van Der Meulen told CICK that this is an inconvenience for the hall members and also the community who they'll have to ask to help raise the funds to replace their equipment.
Round Lake Hall is located on Round Lake off of Highway 16 near Houston. This is one of four community halls that have been burgled in the past five months, creating a recent trend of robberies in remote communities in northern BC.
