The winner of the 28th Annual Thea Award goes to the Indigenous Peoples Experience exhibit at Fort Edmonton Park. The award is an internationally recognized honour that celebrates outstanding achievement in educational, historical and entertainment projects.
The Indigenous Peoples Experience opened in July.
The exhibit explores the rich cultures of local First Nations and Métis peoples while encouraging guests to seek out truths lived by Indigenous peoples before and after Canada’s founding.
Renee Williams is the senior vice president of the Fort Edmonton Management Company. Williams thanked everyone involved in the making of the exhibit, including Elders, knowledge keepers, Indigenous interpreters and the builders.
“This award is for the community. It’s for the community, in- community members, Indigenous partners who worked with us on this space, and we share this award with all the incredible Indigenous interpreters at Fort Edmonton Park, and we’re just really happy that we’re able to bring this home to the Edmonton market.”
An official ceremony to bestow the Thea Award is scheduled for April 2022.
The Thea is awarded by the Themed Entertainment Association to recognize achievement, talent and personal excellence within the themed entertainment industry.
