The Town of Brome Lake and surrounding region is receiving a youth worker.

Action Communautaire Lac Brome, a community organization, is working to bring a youth worker back to the Brome Lake community. A youth worker was very active in the community around the early 2000s. They hosted support and community groups for citizens under the age of 18. The youth worker is also proposed to work with, but not restricted to, youth and young adults in the welfare system. Currently there are no services or activities for young adults in Brome Lake since the departure of the previous youth worker. Therefore, their main role will be to offer emotional and practical support to the youth in the Brome Lake community.

“It came through after we consulted a few summers ago with many parents of youth who perhaps, didn’t necessarily have an outlet, where they could speak to someone if they had questions, not necessarily just mental health, but just general questions,” explained Lee Patterson, Town of Brome Lake councillor.

In the past, the Optimist Club provided the funding for a youth worker in the region.Town of Brome Lake is extremely happy to receive new funding from Action Communautaire Missisquoi, and other funding partners, for this new community resource.

The Town of Brome Lake mentioned residents will be able to see this resource at work in the very near future.
