A group of youth kayakers were faced with a disturbance on Marina Island, a remote spot just off the west coast of Cortes Island, on May 28.

The Quadra RCMP released the following statement:

"On May 28th, 2022 Quadra RCMP received a report of uttering threats at Marina Island. The complainant advised that they were having a kayak adventure with multiple youth around 15 years, when approximately 20-30 individuals showed up for a rave claiming they were sacrificing a goat. The group appeared intoxicated, and two of the men were exposing themselves to each other and passing boaters.

One man in the party became verbally aggressive with one of the adult kayak volunteers, and made a few indirect threats involving a firearm. The youth kayak group subsequently left in order to avoid further confrontation.

The man is question is not believed to be local but is described as:

  • 50’s
  • Arm and chest tattoos
  • Average build
  • 6’0 to 6’1
  • Shaggy grey beard.
  • Possibly wispy short grey hair

“The male's name is now ‘Matt’ allegedly. We still don't have any more information, but the creator of the event actually reached out and apologized to everyone involved with that. It sounded like it was a huge misunderstanding,” Draht clarified.
