Eleven-year-old James Reid achieved a rare feat in golf on Sunday.

He hit his first hole-in-one with a 6 iron on the 9th hole, 120 yards from the red tees for junior golfers, at The Mill course in Cobourg.

“I was getting ready to hit and my dad just kind of told me to crush it with my six iron so I hit it and it wasn’t even on the green yet and my dad was like ‘that looks like a hole-in-one and it kind of just landed on the green and kind of just rolled and I just saw it fall in the hole and I was like ‘oh my gosh,’” James said.

James' dad Fraser has been golfing for about 40 years but hasn’t achieved a hole-in-one before. James has been golfing for four years and says he got into the sport because of his dad and grandfather Douglas Reid. He enjoys playing a round of golf with friends and family.

He also likes the challenge of golf, and one of the biggest ones is putting. Fortunately he didn’t have to worry about that when he aced that hole on Sunday.

Britt Parker, in charge of golf course operations at The Mill, said there was one hole-in-one earlier this year on hole 7, but hole 9 is more rare as its a longer distance in addition to shooting over Cobourg Creek right at the dam. Parker has only been at the course since last fall, but said it was her first time hearing of a hole-in-one on No. 9 and by a junior player.
