The YEG Youth Connect group took a van around Edmonton on March 2-3, stopping at multiple locations to offer resources and services to at-risk youth.
D'orjay Jackson, a steering committee Member for YEG Youth Connect, spoke about the tour at their stop at the iHuman Youth Society in downtown Edmonton on Thursday. The purpose of the van tour was to get care packages and health resources to youth who are in-need, as well as to promote future YEG Youth Connect events. The resources provided were hot food, toiletries, haircuts, harm reduction supplies and bagged lunches.
Jackson said that their goal was to reach 100 people throughout the two-day tour, and YEG Youth Connect had already seen 40 Edmonton youth in their first two stops alone.
She added that she is really happy and grateful to be a part of an initiative like this: due to her own past experiences, she's delighted to give back to the community.
"At times of my life, I also needed that type of support. It feels really good and important to be a part of bringing that forward and being a responsible community member," she said.
