This past weekend many Six Nation’s annual events took place but one event was in a class of its own. On Saturday, Rez Wars had its Boxing & K1 Kick-boxing event debut, organized by Donny Wonch.
Explaining why he wanted to do this event, Wonch said, "It all started with myself. I'm a world champion bare knuckle fighter and kickboxer, I wanted to bring a promotion that's there for the community, helping young fighters that I seen getting beat up and pushed around an opportunity to show their skills in-front of the community"
Wonch also spoke about the importance of giving back to the community and also new upcoming fighters. He also gave us some of the latest news for what’s in store for Rez Wars, saying we are going to be doing another event in about 4 months in the same spot at Yogi's Barn, the location of this year's event.
Tony Rick was the referee for Rez Wars, and is also a part of Hamilton Fight Club and an official referee for the Boxing Ontario.
Rick also posted via facebook on his experience being at Rez Wars first annual event, stating, "What a night we had on Saturday! Our first Hamilton Fight Club Rez Wars event was amazing. A huge shout out to Donny Leanna Wonch who encouraged me to get back into the fight game after I was supposed to be retired ... We are building this group up slowly, being much more concerned with quality than quantity! So, to everyone who came out either to perform and test themselves, to help run it, or to just watch and support. Thank you so much! On to the next one”.
Rez Wars was an all ages event with general admission being $25.00 and merch being available at the door. There was 16 fighters in total and 8 bouts Saturday night with the final bout ending with a knockout head kick by Chris Martin during the final fight the night between Chris Martin and Freddy Brown.
Rez Wars was sponsored by Wonch Construction, Paradise Gardens, Hamilton Fight Club and the Crazy Indian Brotherhood, a not for-profit organization.
