The annual Winterfest is coming back to Anzac this month with a lot of winter fun for everyone in the Wood Buffalo region.
Vanessa Hodgsons, a volunteer for the Anzac Recreation and Social Society, says there some more events happening at this year's event for everyone to look forward to—from sled dog rides to drum circles, there's a little something for everyone to participate in.
Winterfest has been a tradition within Anzac and Wood Buffalo for over 30 years. Lots of events, like sled dog and snow mobile racing, have come and gone throughout the years. Winterfest itself has kept going strong.
During the pandemic, Winterfest was moved into the spring months, where the normal events were also combined with Easter egg hunts.
This year, they're returning back to normal with a bunch of festivities in tow. The Sled Dog Classic is running its 5th year in a row, and so much more to experience at Winterfest.
There are still some preparations left to go for Winterfest, Hodgsons says. The biggest issue at the moment is number for their hockey tournament they want to hold. As everything slowly comes together, she said that she's excited for the event to kick off later this month, Jan. 27-29.
Any information in regard to Winterfest can be found at Anzac Recreation and Social Society's Facebook page.
