When we think of veterans on Remembrance Day, we think of pressed uniforms and stoic faces. We don’t often think of how many veterans are at risk facing marginalization, mental and physical issues, and homelessness in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.
The numbers are staggering, but there is a place to help vulnerable seniors and veterans live better, with dignity and support. Jenny Konkin founded Whole Way House in 2013 to help residents in Veterans Memorial Manor, bringing programs, services, and homes to those who gave us so much.
Konkin says Whole Way House provides, “social programming to help people stay active, whether it’s getting up in the morning for coffee club and, getting showered and getting ready to come downstairs and see your neighbors and have some social time or going on a special outing once a week.”
