Prince Edward County Council approved a $1,886,502.48 contract for Sanitary Sewer Reconstruction at West Mary Street in Picton this week.

The project will see the installation of a larger sewer at West Mary Street to service future expansion and development plans. Drew Harrison Haulage was the winning bidder over QBT Excavating Services Ltd., which quoted at nearly double the price.

Picton Coun. Kate MacNaughton asked staff about the project’s tree impacts, as a section of it will run through Rotary Park. County staff responded that the sewer design will avoid as many trees as possible, including an at-risk butternut tree. But staff highlighted that there will be some tree removals by design necessity, though they will be replanted.

Funding allocation for the sewer reconstruction project was already approved in the county's 2023 rate-supported Capital Budget.
