The West Kootenay Cycling Coalition is adding a movie component to their next Critical Mass Ride.

Critical Mass Rides are gatherings of large groups of cyclists to help riders feel safe on the road and bring attention to the needs of all road users. It is not a protest but it is a call to action to the local government to recognize that cars are not the only vehicles on the road.

Solita Work of the West Kootenay Cycling Coalition says, “to truly have safe infrastructure, it needs to be separated. Nelson can improve quite a bit.”

The event will be held on Oct. 27 as part of the Fall GoByBike Week initiative. This is the second Critical Mass Ride the West Kootenay Cycling Coalition has organized. The first was on Sept. 29.

Riders are to meet at the Civic Theatre at 4:30 p.m. for a screening of the documentary You Never Bike Alone. The ride will begin following the movie at 6:30 p.m.

All bicycles must be equipped with a light and everybody is encouraged to wear a Halloween costume.
