‘We’re extremely proud of them’: Grade 8 Port Elgin students get national recognition for disability walk

Two Grade 8 students from Port Elgin Regional School have been honoured with a Rick Hansen Difference Maker Award for their project hosting a disability walk in Port Elgin.

The award is one of five given out each year across the country, and comes with a $500 honorarium. Maizie Carter and Lexie Lewis organized and hosted a walk to give people a glimpse of life with a disability. The exercise was so popular the pair have already repeated it this year.

On Thurdsay, CHMA stopped by the bustling Port Elgin school to meet Maizie Carter and Lexie Lewis, and hear a bit more about their project.
